Probability [Nov. 7th, 2008|02:20 pm]
[mood | cynical]

I just finished my probability class. 95% final score.

Now my problem is as I am driving home today I had three lights ahead of me until I had to turn onto the freeway and I started to try and figure out the probability of hitting all three green.

Figuring that the lights are red 30% of the time and green 70% of the time.

So the probability of hitting any light red is   Pred = .3 (30%)
So hitting any light green is     1-Pred = .7 (70%)

Pall red = Pred1 * Pred2 * Pred3 = .3 * .3 * .3 = .03% (3%)

So hitting at least green = 1 - Pat least one green = 1 - Pall red = 1 - .03 = .97 (97%)

That said, the odds were in my favor to hit AT LEAST one green light!  Nope it did not happen!

and to finish the thought...

To hit all lights green is      Pall green = Pgreen1 * Pgreen2 * Pgreen3 = .7 * .7 * .7 = .34 (34%)
and the complement to all green is at least one red is     Pat least one red = 1 - Pall green = 1- .34 = .66 (66%)

I should have hit at least one green!

Just something for the troops [Nov. 6th, 2007|04:23 pm]
I just found out about this neat project, where a group of people knit/crochet helmet liners for our deployed troops to help keep them warm during those desert winters. It's basically a ski mask, but specially designed to fit under the helmet and not restrict vision in any way.

Dinner and a Movie [Jan. 20th, 2006|09:03 pm]
Went to dinner with [info]fireopal105 and [info]admiralorko and then we went and seen the movie Underworld Evolution.
Leather out fits - nice
Spandex - Ummmm
outof spandex - Oh My!
If you are into Vampires and Werewolves and have seen the first one then I think it's a very good movie.
I had car chases, things went Boom, and Boobs. All the requirements for a good movie right?

Grandfather is doing well [Oct. 28th, 2005|05:46 pm]
Rode up to Elk Grove and had a visit with my Grandfather, he is doing very will and will have to live on blood thiners for the rest of his life.
So I went out and picked up a new electric razor for him. No more blades don't want him to bleed to death!

reflections [Oct. 27th, 2005|04:45 pm]
I received a call from my mother at work today, my grandfather is in ICU.
He was found unconscious in the road at the assisted living community by the security guard.
It turns out he had (has) a blood clot in his lung.
If my mom was half as (shall we call it cranky) with the nurse as she was me no wonder she did not get as far as she thought she should. She was, and understandably so, very upset about her father.
But you would have to know my mom...
Anyway after getting the information from her and the PIN number that you need to give to the hospital so that they can give you any information on a person, I called and they were very helpful.
He was awake and talking to his Pastor.
I will go up in the morning and see him.
Grandfather is I think 80 years old, he has led a very busy life.
Joined the Navy after Pearl Harbor was bombed, and stayed in until he could retire.
Then joined Lawrence Livermore National Lab as an Electronics Engineer and retired from there.
Was a teacher at Olone College and retire from there.
Moved to Az. and taught there.

He was a very good man to me and I love him very much. He supported me in every thing I did.
He picked up Genealogy some years back and for him the chase and discovery were everything. Sometimes not all the facts were right, but it was interesting none the less to listen to him when he came to visit.

Now as I have spent most of the day looking back at his life as I know it, I hope that the people around him can let him go and not let the system fight to keep him alive because they can.

Go now in peace and
May the spirit of love surround you.

Broke 220! [Oct. 26th, 2005|04:49 pm]
The scale has been stuck at 221 for the last week. This morning it dropped to 219!
I could have moved my belt in another notch but it would have been a little too tight. So I will wait and see in the morning.

My belt [Oct. 19th, 2005|05:16 pm]
I had to take and move my belt in to the next hole (the second one) on Monday.
Tuesday I still had to use the second hole.
Today I still have to use the second hole so I guess it's not a fluke!
